About The Role

The Opportunity:

As we establish our U.S. presence in Albuquerque, New Mexico, We are looking for a Head of R&D. This role sits at the center of the company’s technical efforts—translating scientific vision into an integrated, working accelerator system. You’ll lead multidisciplinary teams, oversee subsystem development, and drive the program from early design through testing and validation.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead execution of the R&D program spanning design, development, integration, and validation of the full electron accelerator system.
• Own day-to-day R&D operations, including planning, prioritization, resource allocation, and milestone delivery.
• Oversee development and integration of key subsystems, including RF systems, beamline components, high-power systems, and supporting infrastructure.
• Drive coordination across physics, engineering, test, and systems integration teams to ensure cohesive progress.
• Identify technical risks early, develop mitigation strategies, and lead problem-solving across the program.
• Partner closely with the Chief Scientist to ensure alignment between scientific vision and program execution.
• Establish development processes, testing frameworks, and performance metrics to support rapid iteration and system validation.
• Build and lead a high-performing, multidisciplinary R&D team.

What You Bring:

• Typically requires a PhD in Physics, Accelerator Science, or a related field.
• Strong track record in accelerator R&D and leading complex technical development programs.
• Deep expertise in RF systems, beam physics, and accelerator-related technologies.
• Hands-on experience with system integration and the practical challenges of building full accelerator platforms.
• Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and deliver against ambitious technical milestones.
• Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment with high levels of ownership.
• Experience with novel or non-traditional accelerator architectures (preferred).
• Background in scaling prototypes into robust, testable systems (preferred).
• Familiarity with high-power systems, controls, or advanced diagnostics (preferred).
• Ability to pass a thorough background check.
